I like it. You know where the link is from

Have you ever considered using a simple mouse over?

You see the whole URL in the status line at the bottom of the page. Even so, I wasn't asking to have them turned off site wide, just an option for me to turn them off for me.

Anatomy of a Smear

The Swiftboaters come after stinerman......

Why does stinerman hate capitalism.

That's kinda fuzzy.

What do you mean?

………… parent

We will call it my very own selfish self interest okay John.

I would venture to say that most Americans agree with me that gas prices are ridiculously high.

This seems to me to be unprecedented, that the price of gas has risen a nickel to a dime weekly with no end in sight.

That is what I mean, this daily rise in price is riduclous and unnecessarily high.

That's my opinion, and I certainly have a right to my opinion that serves my own self interest, don't I John.

Are we clear now?

I'm probably going to get booted from TalkLeft.

I was reading the comments on the (2nd) Edwards endorses Obama thread and I was getting really pissed.

I mean, there you have a whole bunch of (supposubly) progressive folk over there and they were slamming men right and left.

Now I'm not saying that the gender of the people running doesn't come into play with the way some folk will vote. But when liberals start getting irate and being bigoted...that pisses me off. There is no excuse for that.

So I told them so. Glad it isn't one of my favs.

…………

Good for you, Kindness.

This:

"when liberals start getting irate and being bigoted...that pisses me off. There is no excuse for that.
So I told them so. Glad it isn't one of my favs."

is absolutely spot-on, kindness. I agree wholeheartedly with that. TalkLeft doesn't sound like such a great forum anyway, and, if you're out of the graces with such people, you're probably well rid of them.

………… parent

I had liked some of how Jerilynn & BTD laid out their points.

They're both lawyers and they have good presentation skills. But this election has got some people spun so bad. It isn't them so much as the community that has formed.

I know there are Obama folks (and probably McCain people..somewhere) who are die hard & energized by their candidate. But in a site that presents itself as progressive when I see the true believer & worse, the creating of a lower caste of people who don't agree with your political considerations....they are being babies. Children.

That's not what I think liberals in particular should act like. Conservatives too for that matter, but being a liberal, I'm more effected by other liberals.

………… parent

What do you think of the competing GI education bills?

Webb's bill favicon would:

" Increased educational benefits would be available to all members of the military who have served on active duty since September 11, 2001, including activated reservists and National Guard. To qualify, veterans must have served at least three to thirty-six months of qualified active duty, beginning on or after September 11, 2001. [...]

Benefits provided under the bill would allow veterans pursuing an approved program of education to receive payments covering the established charges of their program, up to the cost of the most expensive instate public school, plus a monthly stipend equivalent to housing costs in their area. The bill would allow additional payments for tutorial assistance, as well as licensure and certification tests."

McCain's bill says:

"Under McCain's plan, the GI Bill benefit for active duty soldiers who pay the $1,200 enrollment fee would jump from a max of $1,100 per month to $1,500 and to $2,000 for service members with 12 years of service."

(all shamelessly plagerized from this DKos article favicon on how the Republican leadership tried to attach McCain's bill to HR 980 favicon, a bill that would strengthen collective bargaining by fireman, first responders & police. Yea, I think the way they tried to pull that one was tacky, especially considering the people the bill helped, but really, I'm more interested in hearing what others think about the competing bills.

I think on the surface McCains looks crappy and Webb's might be a hair generous. I'd like to see a lot of it included in what ever finally passes. GI's need and deserve the help. But I guess I wouldn't need everything.

I like Talk Left and I like Big Tent Dem .... that and Taylor Marsh is about the only place I can go to get away from the Obamamania .... But NARAL , to endorse when Hillary has been a tireless advocate of womens reproductive rights , holding up the nomination of FDA chief until Plan B was available to women .... this is an INSULT in my opinion. My problems are with some of the commentators.

Supporting Hillary? No problem. Don't like Obama? No problem.

Blaming all males and Obama's lead on gender and male stupidity? Nope. That's gender bigotry at it's worst. And when it's put forth by supposed liberals....I'm sorry. I can't accept that as being OK.

Jerilynn has been deleting a lot of posts lately. More than one of mine & I was nice, not nearly as obnoxious as I have been here. When she doesn't also delete the bigoted comments in her supporters....I have to say, I find it really sad.

Taylor Marsh......well, let's just say I used to read her daily. Now....she's just a tad on the side of crazy if you ask me.

Both sites no longer care about discussion issues or engaging in dialogue. They seem to exist so that thier communities can pat themselves on the back as being better than anyone else.

………… parent

In my opinion

there has been a concerted effort from the beginning of Hillary's campaign to play to this 'they are all sexist if they don't support me' ploy, intentionally gaming this sentiment to her advantage.

If Hillary had wanted to take the higher ground, she could have given her own speech on diversity within the democratic party and elevated women's issues.

You can't blink in Hillary's direction if you are a man without making her most rabid supporters angry. Too much playing the victim. For me that has been a real turn off, and in real life Hillary knows better. It does more harm than good for women as professionals to play the perpetual victim as a rallying cry to your base.

" we don't hate all women ,,, just THAT woman " ,( followed by a sexist slur ) is the general tone ......how are we ever gonna kiss and make up with those people ???

As an outsider

This is why it's very, very dangerous to get emotionally invested in a candidate. I did that in 2004 (Nader) and regret doing so. You tend to see things in black and white and have a clouded judgment.

Supporters of a candidate always like to stretch the implications of polling results. Let's take Obama's lead among college-educated Democrats as an example.

Clinton supporters can spin that to mean that those know-it-all coastal elites, not the working-class core of the Democratic party, support Obama. Obama supporters spin the results to show that only dumb hillbillies support Clinton. Neither is the truth. All we know is that if you're college-educated, you're more likely to support Obama than Clinton. Any further implication or causal relationship has not been rigorously studied so none can be implied.

Comment of the day. +5

it's very, very dangerous to get emotionally invested in a candidate

Absolutely.

………… parent

You can find re: rabid supporters

whatever you are looking for on the internets.

There are slurs from both sides.

I think it is good to be passionate about your preferred candidate. We should be, because electing a President is a big deal. But it does make losing a heart breaker.

A lesson we could all use is winning gracefully.

In this hard fought campaign I hope you can remember that "The way the loser loses will determine whether the winner wins." So I especially appreciate Hillary defending Obama, the likely nominee, in recent days.

Being angry with some of Hillary's stated positions, such as obliterating Iran, the gas tax holiday, etc. is NOT a personal attack against women. This is the issue I have with Hillary supporters, who see every disagreement as a personal attack against women. Just because she is a woman does not mean that she is entitled to special treatment. Specifically I disagreed with Hillary's appeal to white, hard working white voters, which does not do justice to some of the racial progress that has been made over the last several decades. I don't see that as particularly liberating to women in general. You could argue that it was good politics, but I don't see it as progress.

Hillary will carry on and be an asset to the democratic party, and I hope she can bring you along with her.

Crazy Ants Come to America

Yuk! favicon

It sounds like science fiction but it's not.

Houston is being invaded by flea size ants who like electronics. They are crazy ants the size of fleas, that are swarming through five Houston counties like a sea of lava. They eat ladybugs, suck on fragile plants, and *gasp* like electronics and have caused problems with sewage pumps, computers and have been spotted near Nasa's Johnson Space Center.

They are said to have arrived on a cargo ship.

And when you do kill these ants, the survivors turn it to their advantage: They pile up the dead, sometimes using them as a bridge to cross safely over surfaces treated with pesticide.
