Markos got the Kos-Bots going.

This is very unfair and plain wrong.

For all the talk of "freedom" that the Paulbots claim to believe in, they sure as heck have been silent on the horrible FISA bill we're fighting to fix in the Senate right now. Same for Ron Paul. Why the silence? And the CATO people and the libertarian publications like Reason, where are they?

Here we are engaged in a huge civil liberties issue, and progressives are being forced to fight this thing alone. It's easy to talk about "liberty". It's much more impressive to actually do something about it.

Here's some Reason Material on FISA.

Here's Cato's list . I will admit that Cato's stance has considerably less bite than I would prefer but in looking through, it's hard to find any that condone the wrong doing on this matter. They simply seem to break it down in an overly technocratic matter and try to separate what's illegal from what is made to sound illegal or in violation of FISA rules.

For good measure, here's The Independent Institute , that "other libertarian think tank". They pull few punches.

As for Ron Paul, well, I've heard him talk about habeas corpus, illegal spying and executive abuses on the GOP side and he's talked these ideas of warning against a security as much if not more than anymore....except maybe Kucinich.

Paul on privacy and foreign policy .

I won't even bother with Mises or the slew of libertarian bloggers. They'd only make Markos's grand standing look even worse.

Of course, none of this stops the inane simpleton comments that ensued.

Yeah, thanks, Markos. Just drop some blood in the water and watch your little piranhas go into a silly vitriolic feeding frenzy....based on NOTHING. Hope you enjoyed it. I didn't.

I saw that

and was thinking of looking up a few quotes from libertarians or libertarian organizations, but decided not to bother because the SOTU was on.

Good round up.

Maybe what Markos should say is that there aren't enough libertarians in Congress to help =P

…………

Yeah,

That would require Markos to practice some non-partisan restraint and be more worried about the issue than bashing all non-Democrats. But then he might get troll rated!! =)

I read this as being related to organized opposition

As in "Where are the calls that libertarians call their Senators and put pressure on them?"

That said, one of my more libertarian coworkers is about as angry about telecom immunity as anybody I've ever spoken with. So while i haven't seen an organized attempt by libertarians to put pressure on the Senate, I do know that plenty of individuals have done so.

…………

That's how I interpreted it too

i.e. Reason and Cato may talk about the issue but what are they doing?

Now whether *that* is a fair critique I have no idea. I don't keep tabs on Cato's lobbying efforts.

I came. I saw. I posted.

Cato is a think tank

The advocate policies like any other think tank, Left or Right or anywhere in between.

But they are not a PAC or lobbying group that organizes and pushes political campaigns, ads and the like.

MoveOn does this. Some tax payers groups do this. Right to lifers do this.

On the Web, Kos does this as does RS.

Two different animals.

Alright, fair enough.

Are the libertarian equivilents of RS and Kos doing something then?

Yeah, Balko's the man.

I'm glad you read him. I do too.

The libertarians were too

The libertarians were too knee deep in hermeneutical textual analysis of Ron Paul's Newsletters to be bothered by such trivial matters as Telcom Immunity and FISA.

I've a suggestion to keep you all occupied.

I don't get that

but I have definitely noticed the language thing.

Everyone needs a label that has some sort of smart sounding historical context, classical liberal, neo-liberal, nuevo-liberal, huevos liberals, and huevos rancheros! I will take mine over easy please.

Here's my label for a case of the 'big words' pseudo-intellectual.

What the heck does hermeneutical textual analysis mean anyway...... ;-)

The style reminds me of Jonah Goldberg's book declaring all liberals are like Hitler, because he can string big words together out of context.

ON further analysis

I think it can be cured by revising monetary policy and shrinking the government.

Not sure though. Will have to do some further analyses of the pre classic Austrialian liberal era.

But is that the secondary cause

Really you need to get your emotions out of the way, and look at the situation logically. The secondary cause will lead you to the source of the problem, after first getting to the primary surface and irrelevant actions that are meaningless in terms of regulating the first source. I think you are taking it out of context.
