Debate interface: cruxlux
This is a test of cruxlux , which Tlaloc brought to my attention. It looks promising in terms of formally structuring point/counterpoint discussion and allowing easy navigation through complicated and multi-level topics. On the other hand, it could be more cumbersome than it's worth. Anyway, here is a toy debate to play with the system and see what it can do and how easy it is to use. Lemme know what you think by clicking on the link.
Cruxlux is a useful interface for blog debates
If you decide you don't want to register (which I fully understand!) could you please also note that here, it's still a useful bit of data as far as evaluating the system.

Nice setup, Brendan.
I agree with you that the difficulty of cross-referencing threads to tie together arguments is a problem, but I LOVE that you can keep distinct lines of discussion fully distinct.

I like it Brendan
but I think it could be done a lot better. However it is simple and not difficult to follow :)

Thanks for the feedback guys
Apparently we could embed it here:

Would it be worth trying
for the debate "nights" we talked about earlier?
I came. I saw. I posted.

I think it would be ideal for that
It seems geared towards rapid response with little nuggets of information rather than large essays. Which, let's be honest, is much more tolerable when it comes to debating -- who wants to slog through 5 paragraphs of rebuttal. This makes your other idea of "setting the scene" with diaries ahead of time (or after) more important too, to fill in the missing details and extra context.
Alright, I'm sold. We can do this... you guys wanna run one in-house to see how it works before we try to invite the world? Maybe just let the Forvm folks know? I could start to pull it together over the weekend, or anyone else is welcome to do whatever groundwork they want.

What's the topic?
I suppose we could write a diary soliciting suggestions and then vote on it. You know, if you are feeling democratic :)

What's so awesome about this that threaded collapsible ratable posts doesn't already do?

Format -
when we debate here, we tend to cram everything into one comment. That can muddle the discussion a lot, especially when the topic is complex enough to merit separate lines for clarity's sake.
Plus, when someone puts together a long comment, it's easy to take pot shots at one or two weak points as a way to avoid talking about the strong points. A debate format like this would help up keep track of what points were made and not rebutted, which is sometimes just as important as which were.
