Bush still links Iraq=Al Queda--Enough of Lies!

Here is Bush lying to Coast Guard graduates:

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/huff-wires/20070523/us-terrorism

President Bush portrayed the Iraq war as a battle between the U.S. and al-Qaida on Wednesday and shared nuggets of intelligence to contend Osama bin Laden was setting up a terrorist cell in Iraq to strike targets in America.

Here is the reality as articulated well by Juan Cole:

Bush was out there again on Wednesday trying to link Iraq to al-Qaeda and maintaining that the US was mainly fighting it in that country. In fact, No Mahdi Army Shiites are al-Qaeda. Almost all Sunni Arab guerrilla cells are Baathist or Salafi rather than al-Qaeda. Probably of 100,000 guerrillas fighting in Iraq, perhaps 2% could be categorized in some vague way as "al-Qaeda" if you take that term as referring to a franchise. They are mainly foreign fighters and if the US left Iraq, the local Sunni Arabs would slit their throats. Some slitting is going on even now, and the Bushies celebrate that while not seeming to recognize the implication that "al-Qaeda" doesn't amount to anything as an Iraqi political force.

When is they lying going to stop?

Umm ...

Didn't you yell at me a while back about using World Net Daily links? Huffington Post and DailyKos ... now there's objective sources.

I am not even going to follow these links.

Once again, show me a DIRECT QUOTE of what the President said, and IN CONTEXT. Then we can talk about lies.

And be specific, there is a distinction between saying Iraq Attacked us on 9/11 and saying that al Qaeda is in Iraq TODAY.

On this latter point, they undeniably are. We have killed or captured many of their top leaders there since the Iraq war began.

All the links are credible links better than MSM

The Huffington Post link--is a link to the AP article.

Tha dailyKos is link to Juan Coles website. Juan Cole is a professor in a big university and an expert in Middle East Affairs. He is a million times more credible than anybody in the Bush administration.

Dead Terrorists

Also in the Cole post, he makes the obvious statement that should the U.S. leave Iraq, any foreign jihadists there would quickly have their throats slit.

Yes there are "useful idiot" terrorists in Iraq, but their presence is entirely dependent on our presence. Otherwise, their Sunni allies would have no use for them, and the Shi'ites would quickly remove them from the face of the Earth.

Which makes you wonder about the real patriotism of war supporters. Facts on the gruond clearly indicate that our presence is counter-productive, and the best way to acheive our goals in Iraq is to leave now. Therefore, those (including the President) who want us to "stick it out" there for political gain, are truly traitors who put their party ahead of their country.

Proof that leaving Iraq would be better for Iraq

Proof that When US troops left Anbar province the Sunni people themselves fought the alqueda even more effectively. (McClatchy Reports)

http://www.realcities.com/mld/krwashington/17213164.htm

"The Americans were not truly working in Anbar," he said. "We asked them to clean their hands of al-Qaida and we will drive them out."

The effort has been largely successful, said Suleiman, an elegant young sheik of 34. Life in Ramadi, the provincial capital, is reviving. Residents have cell phone service. Schools and hospitals are opening.

"We did in three months what they couldn't do in four years," he said, referring to U.S. troops. "We are not fighting al-Qaida for the sake of the Americans. We are fighting them to rid ourselves of this shame."

But the area has been destroyed, he said. Merchants have returned to their shops, but only a few can open in the ruins. The city is an expanse of wrecked buildings punctuated by the vehicle carcasses of car bombs.

Swiftboater Skewers Bush As Dictator in Chief

Jerome Corsi author of the book 'Unfit for Command', feels betrayed by President Bush.

IN case of emergency (vaguely defined) the Executive Branch usurps all power, in order to "protect" the nation as revealed by a new Homeland Security Directive.

make plans for "National Essential Functions" of all federal, state, local, territorial, and tribal governments, as well as private sector organizations to continue functioning under the president's directives in the event of a national emergency.

When one of the architects of Bush's re-election feels betrayed by the President should we be worried? Yes! Corsi is trying to bring this secret directive the forefront of the American people attention so that at least it can be discussed out in the open.

Why are private enterprises included in this directive and what exactly constitutes a national emergency?

Ironically, the directive sees no contradiction in the assumption of dictatorial powers by the president with the goal of maintaining constitutional continuity through an emergency.

The troubling aspect of this Directive is that it was all done in secret, much like the Dubai Ports Deal.

Will there be a strange new alliance of Swiftboaters and Liberals working together to take power away from this President.

Delcaring a national emergency around Nov. 2,008? Could it happen? Mr. Corsi thinks it is not an impossible case scenario.

It is the economy, stupid.

…………

I was curious about this part:

"(22) Revocation. Presidential Decision Directive 67 of October 21, 1998 ("Enduring Constitutional Government and Continuity of Government Operations"), including all Annexes thereto, is hereby revoked.

(23) Annex A and the classified Continuity Annexes, attached hereto, are hereby incorporated into and made a part of this directive.

(24) Security. This directive and the information contained herein shall be protected from unauthorized disclosure, provided that, except for Annex A, the Annexes attached to this directive are classified and shall be accorded appropriate handling, consistent with applicable Executive Orders.

GEORGE W. BUSH "

So I googled the revoked order . What's notable is that in that Clinton era document, secret orders or secret directives don't appear anywhere in the text.

So I'm left thinking that this is just a new David Addington ploy to give pretense to and try to portray any future "Constitutional Emergencies" an air of legitimacy.

Frankly, I don't want Corsi as an ally. He's scum. But I'll use the documents he's dug up for my own means.

strange bedfellows

to be sure.

He was on CSpan this morning for an hour. Once you get past what a sickening political hack he was (is?).......... he is not a stupid man. Speaks well and calmly and is quite concerned.

There are other strange coalitions that spring up when common interests merge, notably the alliance between ranchers and environmentalists working together to help protect wolves, because it serves the interests of protecting open space, and open rangeland from real estate developers.

I say the goal is important enough that working together is good. Corsi can appeal to the right, and we already know where the left stands.

Corsi is wondering about the Secretiveness of the Deal!

All Americans should be wondering about it.

And what better (and bizaare) way to unite people than to have a common enemy...... the President.

It is the economy, stupid.

I just emailed both my Senators asking their

assistence in looking into the new Directive, and asked if they could publicize the document and release the secret clauses.

It'd really help if anyone else here who is also concerned about the magnitude shift this represents, also e-mail their representatives and ask the same thing of them.

Good luck. We need it obviously.

Housing market still hurting

Link and quotes:

Sales of existing homes fell by a larger-than-expected amount in April while the median price of a home sold during the month fell for a ninth straight month as the troubles in the subprime mortgage market acted as a further drag on housing.

[...]The drop in existing home sales for April followed news that sales of new homes surged by 16.2 percent last month, the biggest one-month rise in 14 years. However, that big jump was accompanied by a record drop in median new home prices. Analysts saw that as a sign that builders are getting more aggressive in slashing prices as a way to move a glut of unsold new homes.

My impression is that we should not expect a rebound for at least 6-12 months... dunno if that's reasonable or not.

Is the current GOP the party that supports torture and

attacks on civilians? Glenn looks at polling data from 5 primarily muslim nations and the US and finds that:

"Among four key predominantly Muslim countries -- Iran, Pakistan, Egypt and Indonesia -- the percentage which believes that there is never any justification for violent attacks on civilians is between 77-84%. By extremely stark contrast, the percentage of Americans who believe that such attacks are never justified is only 46%."

He also discusses the topic of torture wrt the current Repub party:

"But what is happening to the Republican party -- the transformation of its base from Falwell/Robertson social conservatism obsessed with abortion and gay rights into a macro version of the Little Green Footballs comment section, obsessed instead with, literally excited by, detaining and torturing people, maximizing government domestic surveillance, starting still new wars in the Middle East and being far more brutal with the current ones ("doing what needs to be done") -- is too extreme to ignore."

"The GOP debate in South Carolina two weeks ago was something of a watershed moment in American politics. It really was like watching a debate between Michelle Malkin, Rush Limbaugh, Glenn Reynolds and Michael Savage -- with the LGF commenters as the audience, cheering most boisterously for the most extreme warmongering, pro-torture and pro-lawless-detention sentiments. It is one thing to encounter that level of extremism in the right-wing blogosphere or on talk radio. But to see that embraced so openly and so eagerly by virtually all of the GOP presidential candidates is rather staggering, and self-evidently meaningful."

Deny it if you choose. We've seen it stated here by some of us. Republicans seem to love them some torture. They seem to want to have unilateral detention without charges.

Funny thing too, when I was growing up and going to school, if someone had said those were proper American Values, I would have thought that person was crazy. To suggest that Executive fiat trumps citizens Constitutional & Bill of Rights....well, I wouldn't have believed it. Why do they feel it's OK? They only need reply one thing and they & their like minded bretheren nod their heads approvingly. That one phrase that justifies everything? 9-11.

…………

Terror

It's not just torture, it's terrorism. Those 54% of Americans support terrorism, AKA the targetting of civilians for political gain. It's a sad state of affairs when these supposed backward Muslims voice a desire for peace louder than conservative America does.

At least I know who, out there, is on my side -- and it's not the conservatives, whether American, Taliban, or Al-Qaeda conservatives. They are all the same. Malkin, Rush, and Osama would probably find that their idea of the proper treatment of captives is very similar. They think they are in a battle against evil. They think they are the sole bearers of truth and liberty. The usual BS.

When will they wake up and realize that Muslims and Westerners are the same kinds of people, and that only our political difference are real. I take great heart in knowing that the vast majority of the world is, like me, opposed to torture and the attacking of innocent civilians. Now if we can just get the rest of America to catch up with the world's moral majority.

"That one phrase that justifies everything? 9-11."

For those that screech "9-11 changed everything!", I'd like to hear, specifically, what it changed. Because I don't see that it changed a single thing about the world. We have been and always will be in danger of nuclear-armed criminals, and torture & murder will always be evil.

I can't decide whether this is funny or awful

From CNN : The execution team stuck Christopher Newton at least 10 times with needles Thursday to insert the shunts where the chemicals are injected. He died at 11:53 a.m., nearly two hours after the scheduled start of his execution at the Southern Ohio Correctional Facility. The process typically takes about 20 minutes.

[...]But Newton, who had had insisted on the death penalty as punishment and made no attempt to appeal, chatted and laughed with prison staff throughout the delay. It took so long that the staff paused to allow Newton a bathroom break.
