Instead, he [ESPN writer Scoop Jackson] played the race card, based his premise on a dubious statistic and came off misguided. Once upon a time, the late Ralph Wiley repeatedly proved an African-American sports columnist could write intelligently about racial issues without using his skin color as a crutch. After Ralph passed away three years ago, Scoop Jackson vowed to carry Ralph's torch on Page 2.
I just wish he'd brought that torch to Vegas.

No argument that Favre isn't as good as he used to be, but anyone who actually, you know, watched the Packers play last year knows he isn't the reason they aren't better (and by the way, they finished second in their division to... the Bears). Their pass defense was bloody horrible, they couldn't run the ball consistently, and their once-reliable receivers dropped far too many passes (including the TE Bubba Franks). But the primary reason it's just plain silly to suggest that the Packer's return to respectability starts with the retirement of Favre is that the QB second on their depth chart is 34 year old Todd Bouman, who had a rating of 54.7 in 2005 with NO and threw 2 TDs with 7 picks. After a semi-successful year, GB isn't gonna get one of the elite QBs in the draft, and Favre is clearly better than anyone else they could sign.
Making a team better almost always starts from the bottom up: improve the offensive line, improve the defense, make sure you have a solid kicker, make sure the coaching scheme is appropriate for the type of talent you have on the field. A quick fix such as replacing the QB usually doesn't work, even when you have an outstanding youngster to step in (see, e.g., Denver). The Packers don't have a Vince Young sitting on the bench; they're a better team with Favre returning than they would be if he retired. It's that simple.

But, I refuse to be so bold and predict anything for my Bolts. One game at a time. As Marty said last weekend, the goal is to find a way to win the game that is in front of you. So, this weekend the goal is to find a way to win in Seattle. We are guaranteed the playoffs, will clinch a bye week and possibly #1 seed this weekend. That is All I Know For Sure (oops, sorry to let an Oprah-ism slip in there!)
The city is enjoying it though. Every day of the week I see someone in Charger gear - usually an LT jersey. Santa brought my son a powder blue LT jersey last year and he spent all of this weekend in it :->
I played basketball with my friend, for about 20 minutes - just shooting around, not really running much, and I did a few fade aways... My back was in pain for 3 days after that.
I think my body is telling me that I need to start working out again. It's been a few years :)

Manny!
Sox up 2-0. Life is good! If only the Cubs can make a comeback, my fantasy series could still happen.

How about them Rockies?!?!
Remarkable game last night, and I'm not even a big baseball fan.
Did Holiday touch home plate on that last play?
NBA finals predictions?
Spurs over Jazz in 5, Cavs over Pistons in 6. Finals will be tough -- I'm rooting for LeBron but I'm predicting Spurs in 6.
